Hey guys, today I wanted to share a strategy that I just learned from HotKeyIt (a premium service where pros teach strategies). It’s called the Proxy Thorship strategy, and it looks totally fun. Keep in mind the guy teaching this strategy – vVvRuFF – is a Grandmaster Terran so it’s not like he’s trying these strats out on noobs.
Proxy Thorship Strategy:
The Proxy Thorship strategy is a 1 base aggressive play, and can transition into a macro play quite nicely if you don’t kill your opponent outright. It’s no Fast Expand though, so if you do no damage with your Thors you’re going to get beaten in the long run. The point is to get your Thors into the enemy base and do as much damage as possible. You’ll likely get a lot of quick wins if you execute the build well.
The main goal of the Proxy Thorship is to build a Factory w/ Tech Lab and a Starport near your opponent’s base in a spot he’s unlikely to scout. You’ll start by building 1 Thor and 1 Medivac, drop the Thor into the enemy base, do damage until it’s almost dead, then retreat and repair the Thor.
As you are able you can create additional Thors and Medivacs to keep up the pressure and possibly kill your opponent. Your main targets should be Marines, as they can shoot up and kill your Medivac. If you take out all the Marines, then you can come and go as you please without fear of losing the Medivac with the Thor in it.
Proxy Thorship Build:
Start off the build with the usual 10 Supply, 12 Barracks, 13 Refinery. (If it’s a 2 player map then you can do Refinery before Barracks to get your Factory out earlier) Scout early to find your opponent and make sure he’s not cheesing you.
Next you’ll want to get your 2nd Refinery, then your Factory out as fast as possible, and an Armory and a Starport. Add on a Tech Lab to your Factory after you start the Starport.
Then create your first Thor and Medivac. Once they get done, drop the Thor into the enemy base and start killing stuff. When the Thor gets low on life, pick him up and take him back to get repaired. By that time your 2nd Thor will probably be out and ready to go, so pick him up and drop him off in the base while the first one is getting repaired.
Then just follow this sequence until your opponent taps out!
If you find that the Thorship isn’t doing enough damage, add on a CC, fly your buildings back and macro up for the mid-game.
