Terran vs. Protoss Early Game Ghost Strategies

Terran vs. Protoss can be a difficult matchup as the Terran player, so we need every advantage we can get. With warp gates, a Protoss player can amass a huge army for an early game push that will stomp you into the ground if you're not ready for it. Here's some strategies you can use with ghosts that will help you survive and push forward to take the game.

An early Ghost Academy against Protoss players can provide you with a lot of useful tools to be able to survive and push out for an easy win. If you focus mostly on getting marines in the early game, you'll have enough gas to train a few ghosts and add them to your army. Ghosts bring some great abilities to the table, most notably EMP.

The early push by a Protoss player will usually consist of a mix of Zealots, Sentries, and Stalkers. How many of each will depend on the player. Zealots are tough meat shields, sentries will force field your escape route, and stalkers will shoot from the back to destroy your army quickly.

When you throw a couple ghosts into the mix, a well placed EMP or two can seriously cripple an advancing Protoss army. it will completely drain all the affected units shields, as well as the sentries' energy so they won't be able to cast any force fields. If the Protoss player doesn't back off or micro well, a small group of stimmed marines will easily take them out.

Once you have the combat shield and stim packs researched you should move out with a marine, medivac & ghost force. Many times you will be able to easily take the win as long as you can micro your ghosts well and cast EMP accurately.

Great site!  I've had some trouble recently countering early Protoss pushes so I'm going to give this a try.

Are there any tricks to microing the ghosts that make it easier in the think of battle?

I've tried a few different ways to micro ghosts to help me keep them alive and cast EMP's fast. The one I like most is to put them in a completely separate control group and follow slightly behind my marines.

This way when I encounter the protoss force I just hit my ghost hotkey the easily cast EMP where's I want them to go. I believe EMP has a range of 10 too, so you don't need your ghosts up in front where they could be in danger.

I use this every TvP matchup I come across. Works like a charm every time and has taken quite a few players by suprise. Ghosts don't see the light of day normally.  Works quite well for that first defense/counter. I suggest throwing in medivacs or vikings to help with any collosi that you are up against.
Nothing wrecks a Tossers' hopes and dreams of a successful VR rush than an EMP and a handful of marines to drop those 1-4 VR's.

Totally agree, Ghosts are a key part of my strategy whenever I fight Protoss. Medivacs are definitely important as I usually end up very infantry heavy.

Colossi do decimate this makeup pretty good though so getting a few Vikings is definitely a good idea.
