The iEchoic Build – New Strat For Terran vs Terran

Ok, I understand the growing intensity of TvT. So I've been taught a strat that may even be new to most of the community. Ok so the basic idea of Terran is to have a good economy (check Taerix's Macro Mastery Guide) and to keep units producing out of structures constantly (hotkeys will help). There are only so many options for the terran race, but to be successful in TvT you will see that there are only so many options.

To find out your options you need to scout, if you see fast 2 Rax don't just play standard (you're being rushed) so react to your scouts. But with this build there is really only 1 unit that could hurt you… the Thor. But, you can easily react and if used right your opponent won't have a good enough economy to really afford Thors. The build is called the iEchoic build. Follow below as a display the build and when and what to do.

10/11 depot
12/19 barracks
13/19 gas
15/19 orbital command (manage between scv/marine)
16/19 depot
18/27 factory (sooner if you have 100 gas)
18/27 tech lab on barracks

Next….
  • switch barracks and factory
  • research blue flame
  • starport when barracks is done
  • keep making hellions
  • 2nd starport when 1st is done
  • tech lab on starport
  • research cloak
  • reactor on barracks
  • drop off 4 hellions and try to do as much damage to the worker line as possible
  • build vikings out of 2nd starport
  • banshees out of 1st
  • harass opponent to death or attack if he suicides army/ takes heavy losses
  • expand at 35 supply
  • if opponent is not harassing/attacking tech to battle cruisers before attacking.

So see this build is all about air control, if you lose air control then you lose the battle. The first 4 hellions should do lots of damage, but do not lose them. The main idea is for the banshees to kill any tanks, hellions for the light units, vikings for the air control (can upgrade if opponent is enlarging air force) and the marines help with air/support for the army.

Basic idea was not to engage until you had battlecruisers, but every time I've done this build it has been successful without BC's, because all the harassment usually forces them to go all in and they die. But if your opponent uses thors (with harassment they will probably not) add on a barracks.

This build can only afford really just 1 scan if your on 1 base, so mules are the best thing to make this build work and run fast.

So this is the iEchoic build, enjoy and tell your friends about it , because i believe this build will change the face of TvT.

    Who’s Gage Gibson? What’s his league/rank?

  • Steal alert

This looks very similar to the iechoic build, you just gave it a different name, why?

    Oh shnaps!

Loving this strategy – I don’t get as much time as I’d like to play, let alone search out new ways of playing… And I totally HATE the TvT siege tank game. I did some further reading, and this build did originate from a guy calked iEchoic – but this post doesn’t feel like an attempt to ‘steal’ his strategy – just someone taking the time to share an interesting strategy (he doesn’t even claim it’s his – he says at the top that he’s been taught it by someone. Who cares if he got the name wrong?).

For anyone interested in seeing iEchoic putting this into action, I recommend watching Day[9] #258 – he talks through the thinking behind the build before going through several replies.

Wonderful post – thanks for bringing this one to my attention Gage.

Thank you Franko, I did not attempt to steal this build, i was taught it by my coach and apparently misspelled it . N E Ways i hope you enjoy it as i am helping Tarix write strats and more will be posted soon;)
And being silver is nothing to be ashamed off.. some of my friends are silver and are better than diamond opponets ;)

Thanks for that suggestion Franko, love watching Day[9]‘s dailies.

How could Thor screw up a BC build? I usually play a similar way in TvT, except I preffer to use tanks instead of hellions.
Most of my opponents (I play silver) try winning TvT by a regular MMM ball with perhaps some siege tanks. I use a combination of lots of marines, siege tanks and banshees to fight that. The idea is to use the tanks to defend, the banshees to harass and the marines for miscelaneous. As I do this, I make 2 armories and upgrade ships as fast as I can. Once I have a decent income, I make a few BCs and that’s usually game for the opponents, because nothing short of vikings is good against that, and the enemy marines and thors just die without scratching the highly armored cruisers.
But of course, this is not about my strats.^^’

Androguz, Thor ruins this bc it is so gas heavy that bcs won`t come early.us Immagine losing alkali banshess to thors… pretty drastic right? The thor doesn’t “screw” up the build it just takes you of the order and forces a different unit composition.:)

Oh,. i forgot to mention league/ rank
On my main accont my name is Xmargame League/rank Diamond rank;5 but i can write from a silver/gold perspective from gold account is Artanis rank 8
    silver is Snickers Rank 1

That’s a very cool strategy. I’ve been looking for ways to play Terran that don’t involve walling in and setting up siege tanks.

I love playing with hellions too, although they do require a lot of attention to make them most effective.

So, I am not a well versed player in the game. However, I know some builds and what not. I am just wondering when you build marines, scv’s, hellions? Or do you just always queue one of each up? I know it may be kind of a noob question but any help is appreciated. Thanks
